Insects have a high content of mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids; they are rich in trace elements such as copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium and zinc, as well as vitamins like riboflavin, pantothenic acid, biotin, and folic acid.
Suggested Feeding: Offer free choice. Feed intake with vary based on animal body size, life stage and level of activity. Adult hedgehogs should be fed approximately 1-2 tablespoons of Hedgehog Essential per day, per hedgehog. Adjust the amount fed to ensure your pet’s optimum body weight. May be soaked in water to offer a softer diet during the transition period. Supplement food items including insects, vegetables and fruit can be offered as 25% of less of the total diet. If feeding live insects, we recommend gut-loading the insects (24-48 hours) prior to feeding out. Gut load with Exotic Nutrition Mealworm Chow. Never feed wild insects as they may contains parasites, insecticides or bacteria. Always offer fresh, clean drinking water.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place (under 70 °F). Refrigeration is highly recommended to retain full nutritional value. Store bag sealed, in an air-tight container free from pests and insects. Do not frequently expose food to a freeze/thaw cycle. If storing for longer than 8 weeks, refrigerate.
